Event Recap

The District 1 Taylor on Foot event happened on Saturday, October 11. During this event, 23 people including the City Council and volunteers from City staff, police officers, firefighters, the Greater Taylor Foundation, and Taylor ISD took to the streets and knocked on 108 doors in Taylor’s District 1 including homes on 1st Avenue, Nathaniel Drive, Sams Street, Holly Springs Drive, and Mockingbird Street.

Of the 108 homes visited, 31 answered the door and spoke with volunteers. Of those 31 that answered, 15 required follow-up from one of the participating organizations regarding concerns they expressed.

Feedback and Action

1st Avenue All Good. Need more jobs and more local events/awareness. Follow up with resident about desired local events awareness and kinds of jobs they think are needed.
1st Avenue Concerned about data center - Noise, electric bill increase, value, taxes, water use. RDS and Vegetation, Happy about bike lane removal. Road Improvements. Inform that LevelUp planned in 2026. Provide information about Data Center Costs and benefits. Ask about RDS and Vegitation.
1st Avenue Library Programs, Street Repair and Flooding, Data Center - Land Development Code (Get clarification) Inform about LevelUp planned in 2026. Inform about jobs coming in project Compal and other EDC projects. 
1st Avenue "Street Looks Like Poop", electric grid issues on this side of the street. Been here 8 years.  Inform about Level Up planned in 2026. Pass concerns on to Code Enforcement. Discuss reasons behind water rates and tax strategy.
1st Avenue Road improvements, alley, trees. Fence/Alley issue. Inform about Level Up planned in 2026. Contact resident for clarity about Fence/Alley issue and Trees.
Nathaniel Drive Moved here in June. Need more patrol. Very Happy with Taylor Pass patrol request on to PD.
Nathaniel Drive Flashing traffic lights at night are a safety concern. Community entrances are dangerous. I have two children in school. Ask City Engineer about the flashing lights and at what the traffic volume threshold would trigger the lights to stay on at night.
Sams Street Street sunk. Holds Water even in light rains. Carport issue with permitting and drainage.  Call Resident to understand his issue fully. Inform resident that his street is not planned for improvements based on current condition and comparison to other streets. Due to the lack of drainage infrastructure when the neighborhood was developed and the lack of flooding threat to properties, there will likely be nothing we can do about water standing in the street.  11.25 Gave carport documentation to Development Services and asked them to call the homeowner.
12.11 Development services contacted the resident and informed him of the regulations and his options.
Sams Street Concerned with the loitering ordinance. What is the plan for the homeless, especially veterans? Choosing cruelty over people. Not Christian. Need to provide shelter and basic needs to homeless. Pride Proclamation. Music on Main. Drainage. City customer service is Shitty. need climate control at shelter. Need a stop sign on Jones. Has to use a pump to control water in back yard.  Call for clarification about drainage issues and to discuss improvements to city customer service. Pass contact on to Police to discuss loitering ordinance. Pass contact to Animal Services to discuss plans for the shelter. 
Sams Street Provided a printed list of concerns. Water, electric, and gas suply with growth. Do we have enough police, fire, and ems? Condition of City Streets, and drainage in our neighborhood. Stop signs at Sams and --- water pools. Cant see when pulling out at sams and jones due to house/truck on left. Call for clarification about drainage issues and street conditions. 
Holly Springs Drive Street needs major repairs. All nearby streets repaved. Inform about our Level Up program and how streets are decided. Inform about street rating of 27 and where we are in our program. Stil have at least 6 miles of streets under score of 25, then will begin addressing streets in the 25-40 category.
Holly Springs Drive Moved here in 2020. Water comes down and floods behind houses. Not cleaned out. 3 Foundation repairs due to rain and flooding. Too many cars parked on street. Street needs repairs badly. Dirt washes into culdesac and has not been cleaned out. Other streets nearby are better. Praise for fire and police. Likes community and people.  Call to discuss flooding concerns and pass along to drainage engineer. Inform about level up program and status of street. Pass dirt/street sweeping needs to Public Works. 
Holly Springs Drive Street issues - bottoms out in places. Donna channel flooding. Water in garage from flooding. Junk in front yard down the street. Blue truck with expired tags.  Call to discuss Donna Channel project. Ask about address with junk in yard and blue truck and pass to Code Enforcement. 
Mockingbird Street Neighbors operating business and loud noise with trucks.  Inform Code Enforcement about complaint
Mockingbird Street Cat population. Drainage. 2x flooded. Speeding and not stopping for buses on 4th. Inform Animal Services about Cat Complaint. Call resident for clarity about flooding concern and pass along to drainage engineer.
