Mission

The mission of Taylor on Foot is to meet residents where they are at, foster two-way communication, listen to resident concerns, identify solutions in collaboration with community partners, humanize the City, and build trust with residents.

What

We will walk neighborhoods quarterly, knock on doors, and have conversations with residents to listen, learn, and work together to make Taylor a better place! We are seeking feedback, suggestions, concerns, and complaints. We will target one district per quarter with your councilmember choosing the neighborhood we will walk. We will look to talk with residents from up to 100 homes per walk.

Who

Council members, city management, department directors, police officers, code enforcement, school district, and the Greater Taylor Foundation will be participating.

When

We will be walking on a Saturday morning from 10am to 12pm. Check our website calendar for the upcoming dates and where we plan to walk.

How will residents be notified?

We will be placing signs in the district in the month of the walk. We will be distributing door hangers to the 100 homes we plan to visit in the week before we walk.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How are the neighborhoods and homes chosen?
    1. Since we do the walk quarterly, we visit a neighborhood in each council district once per year and rotate the chosen district. The order of the districts was chosen by a random number generator. The councilmember for the district where we plan to walk chooses the neighborhood/street where we will walk.
  • When will you come to my neighborhood?
    1. With the size of this program, we will not be able to come to every neighborhood. We are starting small and will only visit 200 homes per year. We will measure success at the end of the first year and determine if we need to expand or modify the program to better achieve our goals.
  • Will your police, code enforcement, or animal control staff be looking for and documenting violations?
    1. No. The program is not intended to be an investigation. We are in the neighborhood to listen to residents, not to fix other issues that we see. This is one reason why we will be out on the weekend or on a holiday.
  • What if I don't answer the door?
    1. We will knock and ring the doorbell. If no one answers, we will move on to the next home.
  • How long will you be at each home?
    1. Our staff and council will split into teams. Each team is assigned 10 homes to visit in 2 hours. Based on feedback from other cities, only half of the residents are home and answer the door, which gives us about 25 minutes to spend with each resident. Some visits may be shorter and some longer. If a resident wants to have a longer conversation about a specific issue or with a particular person, they may stay behind and continue the conversation while the rest of the group continues on.
  • What will be done with information I share?
    1. We have developed a standardized process to ensure residents get a response to their feedback within 30 days. We cannot promise to fix an issue or concern that quickly but the response will include information regarding what the resident can expect as a resolution.
