Industrial Pretreatment

As part of the approved TPDES permit, governed by the EPA in 40 CFR 403, the City implements a Pretreatment Program. It is the mission of the pretreatment program to protect:

  • Public Health
  • The Environment
  • Sewer system
  • Wastewater Treatment Plant
  • Utility workers

This is accomplished by regulating what is put into the sewer system. The pretreatment program implements regulations by inspecting, sampling, and permitting businesses that cause or have the potential to cause harm.

Grease Trap Program

As part of the pretreatment program, the City regulates restaurants and other businesses that do, or may, discharge too much fats, oils, or grease (FOG).

Depending on what your business does and the waste it discharges, you may be required to have a trap or interceptor to keep FOG and excessive solids out of the sewer system. This requirement is for new and existing facilities.
